Engagement Activity.

For those who couldn't attend our in-person design workshop in on July 15 and 16, we have created this online resource to provide a similar experience. Participants were asked to rotate between 6 table topics and provide ideas. The topics are all listed below with a relevant question, please get creative and provide us with some exciting ideas or suggestions! By the end of the event the architects had developed three hand drawn concepts that could be potential new site plans for the PW Campus. Take a look at the designs and vote for what aspects you like.

Drawing 1: West Campus Design

What do you like about the West Campus Design? Click all that apply.

Building Locations & Layout: A covered outdoor common space borders the turf field with a sitting stair accommodating the grade change. Program and classroom buildings line the north and west sides of the site, creating a common courtyard that connects the Denford Hall promenade and the turf field.

Field Location: The turf field is moved parallel to Maddison on the site's NE corner, leaving the central and western area open to accommodate the majority of the school program.

Circulation: A generous northern setback accommodates a naturalized trail connecting Maddison, Bank and Richmond, as well as a pedestrian connection through the site between Bank and Laurentian.

Traffic: A one-way pickup/drop-off loop off Richmond, adjacent to the Denford Hall promenade, with underground parking accessed at the NW corner. A separate loading area is accommodated, with one- way access off of Laurentian and leading out to Richardson.

Parking: A small amount of at- grade parking by the relocated field turf, with the majority of parking proposed under the buildings where the field turf was previously located.

Housing: Housing could be located on the south end of the campus between Laurentian and Richardson, taking the form of townhouses with common green space.

Drawing 2: East Campus Design

Building Locations & Layout: The Dining Hall and Learning Commons form a central axis off of Laurentian from a new thru-street to a common courtyard; framed to the north and east by the gym and classrooms, and to the west by the turf field. There is the potential for a sunken gym with ancillary programs arrayed around the outside (fitness, physio, etc.).

Field Location: The turf field remains in place and a field house is proposed central to the field, as well as a rollover plaza and turnaround area through to Denford Hall.

Circulation: A trail around the perimeter of the property could connect Maddison, Bank and Richmond.

Traffic: A parallel pickup/drop-off along the internal street, as well as a small amount of at-grade parking. The potential internal street would be two-way on to Richmond and a one-way exit only on to Richardson and Laurentian.

Parking:  The majority of parking is underground below the Dining Hall, Commons building, and under the common courtyard.

Housing: Housing could be accommodated with townhouses at the south end on the side beside Richardson.

Drawing 3: South Campus Design

What do you like about the South Campus Design? Click all that apply.

Building Locations & Layout: Common spaces (Library, Dining Hall, etc.) form an eastern courtyard with classrooms arrayed at a residential scale along Maddison. Additional program space is located at the eastern edge of the turf field, framing the north end of the courtyard.

Field Location: The shifting of the field allows for an amenity space and parking along Richmond. The field house and program buildings provide a new front to Denford Hall.

Traffic: A two way pickup/drop-off loop off Richmond, with an additional at-grade parking loop. Underground parking access is between the Richmond frontage and the turf field. A separate loading access with one- way access off Laurentian leads out to Richardson. A one-way exit street is proposed on to Richardson.

Circulation: The south boundary between Laurentian and Richardson is a pedestrian plaza and rain garden. A nature trail is located in the north connecting Bank and Maddison, with a pedestrian route connecting Bank and Laurentian.

Housing: Housing could be accommodated at the south end of the site, between Richmond and Laurentian.

Parking: Underground parking is located below the relocated turf field. Some surface parking is proposed off of Richmond.

How would you organize outdoor spaces and amenities throughout the GNS campus to be accessible and useful for folks of all ages, abilities, and interests? Where would you locate them?

Housing and Neighbourhood Integration

If the new campus layout results in the displacement of homes owned by GNS around the perimeter of the property, should new housing be included in the Campus Renewal Plan? Choose all that you support.

Mobility and Access

What would improve access to and from PW campus, and how can the school encourage more students, staff, and faculty more active modes of transportation (public transit, school busses, cycling, walking, and micro-mobility such as scooters)?

Building Function and Configuration

What types of common spaces or amenities would you like to see GNS contributing and where? For example: nature paths, communal gardens, daycare, coffee shop etc.

Campus Design and Personality

What form and character would enable future proofing of the campus?
